Amazing hospitality, greeted warmly and attentively always. They had treats ready for our toddler at check in and check out! English was good and communication through the app was responsive. Very large room (multiple spaces, with the large sleeping room and adjacent changing room and small sitting room), en suite toilet and shower, and wonderful semi outdoor private bath. (I say semi because it was very enclosed, but there was a bit of sky and bamboo growing next to it.) Comfortable beds and cozy comforters and pillows. A little far from the train station, and uphill, but still very walkable. Near a lovely river and in a very pretty area away from the main part of town which provides a lot of peace and quiet. The Kaiseki dinner was phenomenal, one of our favorite meals. They went above and beyond providing a special meal for our toddler, including dessert (it was served beautifully like our meals were). The Japanese breakfast was amazing as well. We loved the traditional rooms and atmosphere, and the yukata robes were a wonderful touch.

Fantastic hospitality, incredible kaiseki meals (we had breakfast and dinners). It's a small traditional Ryokan with 8 guest rooms, so the room only has a toilet and sink. To shower and bathe you use the traditional Japanese bath area, one for men and the other for women. A memorable experience. Room for improvement: the futon style mattress is VERY firm. And some interior finishes such as the wallpaper and tatami mat edges would benefit from replacement. But this is a historical Ryokan building so don't expect everything to be new and modern. The fantastic hospitality and meals are the most important thing if you stay here. Two people in our group had tattoos, it was not a problem using the hotel's communal bath. Also this Ryokan is located near the Tenzan Onsen. The Ryokan is a 15-20 minute walk to Hakone-Yumoto train station. Also is near bus line "K" which goes to the lake.

I stayed at the Deluxe Twin Room with my significant other for a one-night stay and we LOVED it! We were a bit skeptical at first because of the average reviews, but we were so surprised. This place deserves 5/5 stars~! We were immediately met with such lovely hospitality from the staff, and although not all of them spoke English, they tried their best and it was definitely manageable for English-speaking travelers. Both the dinner and breakfast Japanese-styled meals were wonderfully crafted and delicious. Our room, private bathroom, and private outdoor bath were very clean. I can't say more about the outdoor bath, it was so relaxing, and it felt like all of the stress of traveling seeped out of my body. Staying at this ryokan was one of my top experiences while visiting Japan, and I can't wait to be back!

The staff were outstanding, the limited English did nothing to limit their excellent and attentive service. Everyone was incredibly kind and courteous. We travelled with our 9 month old son and they did everything in their power to make us feel comfortable and happy. They played with him, they gave us extra bins for his nappies, everything was amazing. The food service was also incredible. Outstanding traditional Japanese private breakfast and dinner - again they set up our sons pram in the room so he could sit with us and kept him entertained when we needed to eat. We had a room with a private onsen and it was everything we wanted. Very clean, a great space with traditional setup and our own kimonos which was so fun! We had an amazing stay and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

The property was very traditional Japanese feels. It did seem a bit on the older side (no smart TVs, only takes cash but lovely. The staff was amazing and sweet. We spoke very little Japanese and they spoke some English and used translator apps otherwise. The food was delish, different than we’re used to as Americans, but still good, you could tell it was quality. The private onsen was amazing, we felt so relaxed after the bath, it was outdoor and was raining but the bath was covered and the rain provided a nice ambience, I couldn’t even tell it was cold when getting out of the bath. The futons were a bit hard and uncomfortable. Absolutely recommend to travelers!! It was such a great experience.
